Me gustan los chicos malos - I like bad boys

Mi respuesta: NO!

A few days ago, I was talking to a friend about a guy who's had a crush on her for years. We started talking about him after my friend mentioned that she wanted to share her life with somebody and that there were moments when she felt very alone, even though she is very happy in every other aspect of her life. I asked: "Have you ever considered having a relationship with X?". Her answer (I'd like to point out that anytime I mention a friend or family member, I do so with their consent): "No, I like bad boys. He is a good guy, smart, hard working, funny, handsome, but he doesn't have that "bad boy" vibe. He's not one of those guys who keep you in your toes and you never know whether he is going to call or when you'll see him next, do you know what I mean?" My answer: NO!! I honestly believed that we had left this behind after our teen years or, at the most, our twenties. But still???? I must have gotten old prematurely, because I do not need anybody in my life who brings instability, quite the opposite, actually. I find having a mortgage that I will be done paying when I'm 50 adventurous enough. But I am aware that my friend is not alone in this. She may be the first woman to tell me openly, but I see this behavior everywhere. At the end of the day, you have to have whatever type of relationship that you want. But with the understanding that it will bring you some things and it will lack other things. If you like bad boys, it's your prerogative to be on a search for one. But it will be the one that's a good guy, smart, hard working, funny, and handsome who will take care of you when you're sick, will hold you when you're sad, and will support you without you having to wait for him to show up again.
